Legendary Endeavour on view at Shipyard ‘De Delft’
This legendary ship was open
to the public from 29 till 2 May 2004 at Shipyard ‘De
Delft’. In 1770 James Cook, set sail in Endeavour and
accurately charted a substantial part of the coastline of Australia.
Now it is rebuild in its old glory and has set sail around the
world. With her heavy cannons and her sails hoisted, Endeavour
looks like she sailed right out of an history book.
Voyage of discovery
You might know Endeavour from the recent movie success“Master
and Commander”. This film takes place on board of this
ship and Endeavour is one of the major stars from this hit movie.
The original Endeavour was not
build for a glorious place in history. This ship was built as
a collier bark.
However, Endeavour would be used for other purposes. In 1768 the British
admiralty decided to send out a ship to explore the Pacific, Australia
and New Zealand. Lieutenant James Cook is renowned for his naval expeditions,
which raised a treasure of new scientific knowledge on the field of
geography and biology.

In the eighties of last century it was decided to rebuild Endeavour.
With pleasure we offer you the opportunity to take a look at this
