History - a second life

Very few ships of the seventeenth and eighteenth century have their original building plans and specifications preserved. Luckily, the plans of the DELFT are still available.

Thanks to these drawings and extensive documentation it is possible to build an exact copy of this man-o'-war, which was launched at Delfshaven in 1783.
Her name will now be: 'De Delft'

Schiehaven
The original idea was to build 'De Delft' at the same spot where her predecessor was made, in the harbour called 'Voorhaven' in Delfshaven. Research showed that nowadays this harbour is not deep enough for a ship as tall as 'De Delft'. It also lacks a suitable waterway to the Maas and the place of the old dockyard is not very accessible for cars and busses.

That is why now 'De Delft' is being build at a big space on the banks of the Maas by the name of 'Schiehaven', right across the 'Voorhaven'.
With more than enough parking-space.

The artist-impression shows what it might look like in a few years.
