In the beginning of July a new fore
knee was made from an arched tree. Just like the last
one, this knee turned out to be a disappointment.
After the sapwood was cut off, there was was not enough wood
left on the fore knee to give sufficient support to fix the
stem post and forward frames to the keel. As soon as a suitable
knee is available the recently placed Frame Nr.1 will also have
be removed. |

In July two truckloads of wood
were delivered on our yard. They will be used to plank the
outer hull. The sawing of the sents, needed to start fairing
the hull, has begun. Due to the problem mentioned above, the
hull-fairing will start at the aft ship. In the picture on
the right you can see about a hundred years of carpenters
experience at work, so at least nothing can go wrong there. |

This month, Alex Donkersloot and
Konrad Wojas, both divers of the Noordzee
duikvereniging Sirene (North sea diving club) excavated
a wooden wheel of a ship's gun carriage. They donated it to
our foundation. The picture shows Koos Rangelrooy and the
diving club's chairman Herman Schoute with their new finding,
aboard their old fishing boat 'Zeeschuimer', a name that can
be roughly translated as 'Sea scourer', which is a eufemism
for 'pirate'.
Once all the salt of being on the sea floor for the last two
hundred years has been completely cleaned off, the conservation
method of dry freezing will probably be used to preserve the
wheel.
